Before his untimely death New York Rapper, Bashar “Pop Smoke” Jackson, became a sensation with his breakout single, Welcome to the Party. The superstar made his mark in the music industry with his unique sound, but it appears the rapper had plans to make his mark in the film industry as well.
In a “coming-of-age” basketball movie, Boogie, that was created by restaurateur and producer Eddie Huang, we’ll follow the main character, Alfred “Boogie” Chin, an Asian-American basketball phenom carrying the burden of expectation. Set in New York; Boogie tries to balance his dreams of the NBA, a new girlfriend, school, and on the court rivals.
The movie is set to release March 5,2021. Though Pop Smoke is not the movie’s main character, his role is more than a cameo. His character “Monk”, appears to be one of the rivals that Boogie has to worry about. Since beginning production in 2019, Eddie Huang, has confirmed Dave East, Mike Moh and Hit The Floor star Taylour Paige as cast members.
Music for the film was produced by influential names in hip-hop such as, Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest and music producer Adrian Younge. Music from Pop Smoke will also be included.
