Former U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler’s 49% ownership in the Atlanta Dream is now at stake. Last summer Loeffler publicly made comments that opposed the views of WNBA players who were fighting for social and racial injustice. It wasn’t until the republican senator was photographed at a campaign event with Chester Doles, a former KKK member, that the franchise felt Loeffler’s ownership was toxic. Information in which she later denied knowing.
The WNBA stated “As it relates to the Atlanta Dream, we understand a sale of the franchise is close to being finalized, once the sale negotiation is concluded, additional information will be provided.”
Los Angeles Lakers player, LeBron James, did express his interest in forming a group to purchase the team. According to the Associated Press an unnamed group is finalizing the deal.
No additional comments have been given at this time.
