On Jan. 11 Kevin Hart announced that he and his company, HartBeat Productions, signed an exclusive 8-figure deal with Netflix. The deal would include the comedian producing and starring in at least four films. Along with the partnership, he’ll also have a first-look film producing deal.
The first-look film agreement would legally give the studio first dibs on whether it would want to consider a film by Hart for production and/or distribution. In exchange for first-look rights the studio will give financial support to Hart during the films development stage. This is a film commitment that has only been made with Adam Sandler with such a price tag.
During a press release Hart said, “Partnering with Netflix is an amazing opportunity for HartBeat and myself, I am excited to act in and produce cutting-edge films with Netflix. I am extremely grateful to Ted Sarandos and Scott Stuber, we share the same creative vision and always put the audience first. This business is about growth and my HartBeat team continues to exceed my expectations with their ability to develop stories and relationships. Our goal is to make the HartBeat name synonymous with first-class entertainment and narratives.”
The comedian will soon make his debut in a drama series alongside Wesley Snipes in True Story.
